AUS is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the United States and is affiliated with the American University in Washington , www.american.edu/sharjah The medium of instruction is English. Baccalaureate degrees in 23 majors and graduate certificates, diplomas, and Masters level programs in several disciplines are offered by the faculty of four schools: Arts and Sciences, Business and Management, Architecture and Design, and Engineering. The curricula of the programs are based on the American model of liberal education and include a strong general education requirement. AUS is licensed in the United Arab Emirates , and is incorporated in the State of Delaware in the United States . The 316 acre campus of AUS is part of the 1600 acre University City complex located ten miles from the center of Sharjah City www.sharjah-welcome.com and fifteen miles from the city of Dubai www.dubai.com The Emirate of Sharjah is situated between the shores of the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and has beautiful beaches and lovely varied scenery. Currently, AUS has 3542 students, 211 full-time faculty and 400 full-time staff. The projected enrollment for fall 2004, is 3,650 students. The School of Business and Management offers undergraduate programs in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, MIS, Public Administration and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA.) The business programs at SBM are quantitatively and market oriented, designed to provide our students with the technical competence to succeed in the international global markets. Applications are invited from qualified candidates to fill several faculty positions at the levels of assistant, associate, and full professors in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, MIS, and Public Administration. Teaching load includes undergraduate and graduate courses. The School offers Bachelor of Science degrees in the above areas and an MBA program. Applicants for all positions in the School of Business & Management should have a terminal degree in the appropriate field and show evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching. As appropriate, faculty will be expected to employ methods that utilize new instructional technologies. Experience with case-based instruction and/or interdisciplinary instruction is welcomed. Faculty must be committed to the vision of this institution as an independent university thoroughly grounded in Arab culture while serving the diverse populations of the region. While AUS emphasizes undergraduate teaching, retention and promotion require that faculty publish/produce peer reviewed research and/or other forms of creative work appropriate for their discipline.
