medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
It was very kind of John to pass along to us the news of the death of Otto Grundler, and of Christopher and Steve to share their thoughts as well.

In my dealings with Otto, I found him to be a kind, reserved and modest man who took an understated yet immense pride in his institution and especially in 'his' congress. Steve's comment below reminds me that I have just filled in a form for the Congress organizers, noting that I feel our medieval-religion list takes its roots in being a sort of non-stop internet extension of the Congress (in relation to medieval religion and culture, of course; the midnight dance is immovable).

Whether one knew him personally or not, the community of medievalists is deeply indebted to Otto Grundler. -- George Ferzoco

In a way, he is responsible for this list; without his work promoting and building Congress, we would not know each other well enough to have such a group. And much of the discussion in this list centers around things raised at Congress.
