The Classical Music Library

-----------------------------

It's not too late to sign up to the Eduserv Chest agreement for the Classical Music Library. The Classical Music Library offers the world's largest multi-label collection of music recordings for libraries, featuring the world's greatest performers from 32 independent and major classical labels, including EMI Classics.  The service is designed for libraries, allowing listening and learning at any time and at any location. The continually growing collection of 35,000 tracks is accompanied a suite of tools and cross-reference materials. The Library is constantly being expanded - for example, a recent press release announced the addition of MODE, LSO Live, Lyrichord, Nuova Era, ASV and Black Box from the Sanctuary Classics group.

From the Press release:

'MODE: Bringing a contemporary focus with artists such as Ensemble 21 and the Arditti Quartet, MODE also offers significant composers such as Cage, Xenakis, Sclesi and Feldma.

LSO Live: Launched in 2000, the LSO Live label quickly established a fine reputation for a catalogue based around the Romantic orchestral repertoire. Particular highlights are Sir Colin Davis' influential revival of Berlioz, including his recording of the opera Les Troyens, which won Best Classical Record and Best Opera at the 2002 Grammy awards.

LYRICHORD: The Lyrichord label covers a number of specialist areas within the Early and Baroque repertoire; including, medieval vocal polyphony, the keyboard works of Rameau, Handel and Scarlatti, recordings of the great organs of Europe and songs of English masters, such as William Byrd and John Dowland.

NUOVA ERA: Turin-based label Nuova Era focuses primarily on Italian repertoire from Paisiello to Gian Carlo Menotti.  They have a wide range of lesser-known operas from Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and their contemporaries, as well as favorites such as The Barber of Seville. Prominent singers on Nuova Era include Maria Callas in Lucia di Lammermoor.

ASV: ASV has become a respected label for its high-quality recordings of the classical repertoire.  Ranging from superb performances of mainstream works to more unusual repertoire, much of it unavailable elsewhere.

BLACK BOX: Black Box represents the cutting edge in contemporary music recording.  Specializing in 20th and 21st century repertoire, it includes the works of Birtwistle, Nyman and James MacMillan, featuring artists such as Raphael Wallfisch, Evelyn Glennie, John Harle and the Nash Ensemble.

These additions bring CML's content partners to 32 labels, expanding CML's database to over 35, 000 tracks.  The new labels also significantly strengthen our content by broadening the range of material, from early medieval through contemporary.

Roger Press, Classical International's Executive VP for Content and Business Development, notes, "Within this broad range CML has a focus on contemporary composers, and is broadening representation by the recent signing of MODE records which was founded around the music of John Cage. Other contemporary labels include Bridge Records which is one of the most respected contemporary labels in the US, and North South Consonance which features many women composers - also a feature of CML."

"Highly Recommended" by CHOICE Magazine, CML offers the world's largest multi-label collection of music recordings for libraries, featuring the world's greatest performers from 32 classical labels.  Our award-winning service is designed for libraries and faculty, enabling learning and listening to tens of thousands of recordings at anytime from any location. This continually growing collection of 35,000 plus tracks is accompanied by a suite of tools and cross-reference materials.'

The cost per institution through Eduserv Chest is £645 + VAT for the first year, from 1st August. This price may remain the same for years 2 and 3, but Classical International have assured us that any increase will be capped at a maximum of 4% per annum. This would mean the pricing for years 2 and 3 would be £670 + VAT and £695 + VAT respectively.  This pricing gives each subscribing library 3 concurrent users and there will also be 6 'floating' concurrent users available to all participating libraries. The normal price for 3 concurrent users (with no additional 'floating' users) is £795.
