A potential significant issue is that if a site is contaminated with
hydrocarbons does it effectively become the aforementioned defacto
landfill? Will waste management licences be required? Will anyone want to
buy a hydrocarbon contaminated piece of land which effectively has to be
managed as a landfill? What will this do to the governments brownfield
redevelopment agenda?
