What do you mean by "fundamentalism"? I ask this term is used generally as term of opprobrium or as a means of delegitimzing the critique one does not wish to consider. For example: Islamic fundamentalists or Christian fundamentalists are cartoonish figures in the eyes of most, with little consideration or understanding of them as persons. The reality is that even (most) fundamentalists are peaceful people whose view of what constitutes right living differs from what most of us think of as right living. They love their children and pay their taxes; they try to live by the rules they know and so on. Let us instead focus on the powers that manipulate fundamentalists, not on the people themselves.... Not because I do not think that your issues don't matter, or that raising awareness is not a valid objective; I do. I think it inappropriate because it implies that your priorities have more worth and urgency than those of others. I believe that this attitude that "my value base is more valid/ important than yours" has a smell of arrogance and elitism about it. I believe it disrespectful of others. Let me add that anything approaching fundamentalism scares the hell out of me.
