security. As Nick says, it's not rocket science but you do need to put the
right procedures in place and you can destroy immediately after capture and
confirmation.

No, in general the point of scanning them is to destroy the paper.
Provided you comply with the relevant standards (and that is routine rather
than rocket science) the paper is redundant straight away.

When a UK organisation scans paper invoices, does this have an impact on the
retention of paper invoices (after scanning)? My initial impression is that
when paper invoices are scanned, the paper version continues to be the
original copy (and therefore is retained for 7 years)? Is the electronic
version only treated as a "copy"?
