Howe (_Studi medievali_, 3a ser., 25 [1984], 291-99) to the pontificate of Benedict IX (1032-45). This has a modern edition by Paolo Golinelli in _Studi medievali_, 3a ser., 20 [1979], 709-788 ("La 'vita' di San Simeone monaco"); that's not available to me as I write this, but the text of the Life in the _Acta Sanctorum_ specifically names (in ch. 5) only St. James at Compostella and St. Martin at Tours. Whether that's actually a record or, instead, a piece of exemplary fiction is of course another matter. Best, John Dillon PS: The abbey complex of Polirone is extensive. A website devoted to it is here: http://xoomer.virgilio.it/fgazzoli/sbenedettopo/sbenedettopo.htm A shot of its Cloister of St. Symeon is here: http://xoomer.virgilio.it/fgazzoli/sbenedettopo/chiostross.htm And some other medievally pertinent images are here: http://www.itis.mn.it/vc43/proto/italy/sbp/colleg/45high.htm and here: http://xoomer.virgilio.it/fgazzoli/sbenedettopo/mosaico.htm ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join medieval-religion YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave medieval-religion to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/medieval-religion.html
