CILIP Workshop ~ Positive approaches to negative performance, 9 November 2004, London

POSITIVE APPROACHES TO NEGATIVE PERFORMANCE
9 NOVEMBER 2004, LONDON

Poor performance can have a detrimental effect on the morale and motivation of other staff. It costs organisations money, and, if it is not checked, can damage relationships with customers.

Dealing with negative performance presents a challenge to any manager. There are a wide range of situations that may have to be dealt with, from coaching an individual who is under-achieving, to dealing with challenging or subversive behaviour.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
This workshop will help participants deal with the 'poor performer' and explore how to turn poor performance around, how to encourage a more effective response, and how to deal with more extreme cases.

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* explored how to set and implement clear standards of performance
* looked at strategies and sanctions for improvement
* identified different techniques for dealing with difficult behaviour
* discovered how to manage corrective action
* developed an individual action plan

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Senior library and information staff who are responsible for the work of others.

WORKSHOP LEADER:
John Hudson, Consultant, Hudson Rivers

John has extensive experience of a wide range of personnel practices and of advising and supporting managers in developing their teams.

FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS:
"Very practical, rooted in reality"
"Excellent case studies - many useful ideas and issues emerged."
