This course
*looks at the traditional cataloguing process
*highlights the essential elements
*is appopriate both for recently-qualified professional staff or
experienced library assistants who may be undertaking cataloguing
*is not dependent on any particular proprietary cataloguing system.

What does it cover?

At the end of the day delegates will

* be able to identify the elements of a catalogue record
* know how to check personal and corporate name headings
* be able to construct a new catalogue record for basic books and
serials
* be able to understand a MARC formatted bought-in catalogue
record
* know where to find further information

The course is interactiveand includes hands-on examples. It is not
designed around any specific catalogue utility. The course is backed
up with comprehensive handouts.

Who should attend?

Any memer of library staff whose work includes some element of
cataloguing material - whether from bought-in records or at a basic
'original cataloguing' level.
