Ofcom's strategy and priorities for the promotion of media literacy

List members may be interested to know that Ofcom is currently conducting a consultation on its strategy and priorities for fulfilling its statutory duty to promote media literacy.  The consultative document is on the Ofcom website at: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/current/strategymedialit/?a=87101; the closing date for responses of 10th August 2004.

Its definition of media literacy -- "a range of skills including the ability to access, analyse, evaluate and produce communications in a variety of forms" –- overlaps strongly with information literacy.

MLA will be submitting a response, which will be published on the MLA website.  Other bodies may wish to consider submitting responses too.
