 Historic Environment Officer (Archaeology)

 


Salary £21,282 - £24,726 per annum, pay award pending

You will assist the Principal Historic Environment Officer in providing
expert advice to the Staffordshire County Council's Planning and
Regeneration Service on all matters relating to the historic environment.
Working within a multidisciplinary team you will also be responsible for
contributing to responses to statutory and non-statutory consultations by
local authorities, government departments and agencies and public utility
companies.  You will be required to set briefs for archaeological mitigation
strategies and monitor fieldwork and reports to ensure they comply with
professional standards and best practice. 

 

You should have: 

*       a degree in a discipline relevant to archaeology. 

*       a good knowledge of the planning and legislative framework for the
historic environment, especially that relating to archaeology. 

*       a current driving licence.

 

The post holder will be required to maintain and update records relating to
the historic environment. In particular they will contribute to the
production of guidance notes and supporting data sets to facilitate the
consultation process both internally and externally. The post will involve
extensive liaison within the County Council and externally to a wide
audience including the general public. Accordingly the post holder must
exhibit good communication and negotiating skills. In the light of rapid
changes affecting the historic environment at the moment the post holder
will also need to adopt a flexible approach to their role and may be asked
to assist with a range of other activities undertaken by the Historic
Environment Team.
