Dear colleagues, irrespective of the football season, I would like to know whether anybody can help mje trace the origin of the word 'Hun' with reference to Germans. My 'hunch' is that it was introduced around the time of WW1 and if US war propaganda is anything to go by there are plenty of posters showing German soldiers in Nibelung-like uniform.
