Now in its 13th year, the Symposium is conducted as part of the IFEA annual conference. This year the conference is taking place in the historic city of Boston, Massachusetts between the 8th and 12th November. Details regarding the conference can be found on the IFEA website ( <http://www.ifea.com/> www.ifea.com). In addition to the Symposium, the registration fee (see below) for this event covers the full range of educational sessions (over 100) taking place as part of the IFEA conference, as well as selected social and networking functions. Presenters whose papers are deemed appropriate will be requested to submit them to the refereed International journal Event Management. FORMAT The Symposium will take place in two sessions on the 10th and 11th November. Additional to the Symposium will be a discussion forum concerning educational issues in the event field to which all delegates will be invited. This session will be designed to allow those delivering courses in this area to share insights concerning their programs (particularly teaching and learning strategies), and to provide an opportunity to discuss broader educational issues associated with education in the field. SUBMISSIONS Submissions are to take the form of abstracts of approximately 500 - 800 words. Abstracts are to relate directly to the event field, and are to be appropriately referenced. In past years papers have addressed a variety of issues including: event impacts; event management education; event sponsorship and marketing; merchandising; event planning; community engagement and events; event project management; trends/forces impacting upon the event field; volunteer management; sustainable development and events; and event evaluation. All abstracts will be peer reviewed. The final date for submissions is Monday 6th September. Abstracts are to be sent electronically as attached Word documents to Bruce Wicks ([log in to unmask]) (North America) or Rob Harris ([log in to unmask]) (Rest of the World). Submissions will be assessed progressively, with a turn around time of no more than five working days. Abstracts will be published either in hard copy or on CD ROM. REGISTRATION DETAILS The Symposium registration fee of US$295 encompasses the Symposium itself and attendance at the IFEA conference 8th 12th November. This heavily discounted fee is only available to Symposium participants. Registrants in the Symposium are subject to the terms and conditions of payment as given in the IFEA conference brochure, and are to follow the same instructions as regards registration. In completing the registration form participants are to tick the 'Student' box and write Symposium Registrant next to it.
