RE: Quotation?

**Haven't we had this one before? The Buffs are/were the East Kent Regiment, which at one time claimed to be the longest serving in the British Army, having been raised in around 1687. I don't know whether Kipling ever used the phrase, but I suspect it has more to do with the lengthy history of the regiment (which I think is now part of the Queen's Regiment.)

On the slightly down-market quiz programme The Write Stuff on Radio 4 it was said that RK originated the phrase 'Steady the Buffs!'.  Surely not? Moichael Healy
