I don't know about having Peter to tea and leaving Abelard and Bernard
out in the cold. Certainly Peter wrote a wonderful letter to Heloise;
he could be very charming, and clearly he fancied her something rotten.
But he also had a rather nasty anti-Semitic streak, while A and B
appear to have been remarkably enlightened on this point. I think I
would have left Peter to drink his tea in his very adequately appointed
monastery, and had both Abelard and Bernard for tea - but not on the
same day.
