My earlier abstract comment regarding gridftp now has become an issue of immediate importance. For the current LHCb data challenge (which is about to start) we need a statically linked grid-ftp client binary that can be part of a job tarball which is run on a cluster which does not have any globus libraries installed. grid-ftp will be used to acquire necessary data from remote sites for the job.
