Paul I think some of the better examples of well drafted yet practical guidelines I've come across on the internet are from Kieran Phelan and colleagues at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/svc/dept-div/health-policy/ev-based/defau lt.htm What I particularly like is that CCHMC regards the guideline as just one element in delivering protocol-based care - other documents such as discharge plans, care pathways, patient information etc are often produced in tandem. Kieran gave a presentation to our Evidence in Practice Conference last year - more info at http://www.ubht.nhs.uk/evidence-in-practice/EiP2/speakers/10-1.htm James Osborne Clinical Effectiveness Coordinator United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust Bristol BS2 8HW -----Original Message----- From: Paul Glasziou [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 09 March 2004 12:39 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: examples of good guidelines? Dear Folks, I am looking for an example of a good guideline, ie something that is: 1. Well presented and easy to use clinically 2. Short (<20 pages - most seem to be 100+) 3. Clearly evidence-based 4. Gives brief information necessary for its appraisal, eg, by the AGREE tool (ie briefly describes it committee, methods, etc) Many thanks Paul Glasziou Department of Primary Health Care & Director, Centre for Evidence-Based Practice, Oxford ph: 44-1865-227055 www.cebm.net
