Thanks to all those who responded to my request for advice on creative class assignments. These have ranged from mini-conferences to group-assignments to lit reviews to self-assigned projects and beyond, as well as sparking some interesting thoughts on the challenges of assessment more generally. It is interesting to note, however, that many of these require more work on the instructor's part. Given the upward creep in class size (the course I am reworking will increase from 50 to 100 this Fall), this becomes a real challenge.
