The Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU) is an academic collaboration between The Royal College of Surgeons of England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Its remit is to carry out national audits, develop audit methodologies, and produce evidence on clinical and cost effectiveness. It is also involved in the development of clinical guidelines through its input in the NICE Collaborating Centre for Acute Care.

The National Joint Registry was initiated in 2002 and aims to collect data on all hip and knee replacements carried out in the NHS and private sector in England and Wales. The CEU will carry out the statistical analyses for the NJR's Annual Report. Furthermore, additional research projects will be undertaken on the basis of data available in the NJR.

For this project, we are seeking a statistician or epidemiologist, who will be part of a multidisciplinary team. The candidate will be responsible for liasing with the NJR Centre, data management, assessing the data quality, designing and carrying out statistical analyses, and writing statistical reports. There will also be the opportunity to participate in other large scale research projects of the CEU with an emphasis on risk modelling for case-mix adjustment.

Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in statistics or a related discipline. Good verbal and written communication skills, and enthusiasm for research are essential. Experience with handling large databases, modelling, analysis of multilevel data, and knowledge of Stata would be advantageous.
