I would be grateful for any advice on the following situation, please.

I heard yesterday of a woman (living in the UK) who has schitsophrenia. She has been sectioned and is living in an NHS mental health hospital. She believes that the hospital is a 'factory' for producing spare body parts for the rest of the NHS, and has repeatedly asked the police for help, by dialling 999. As I understand it, no action was taken by them. In desparation, she set fire to part of the hospital, she says in order to force the police to come, so that she could be rescued.

She is now being charged, either with arson or with 'arson with intent', a sentence which carries up to 14 years, I believe.

Does anyone know of a course of action which can be taken to protect her human rights? She seems to be mentally ill enough to be institutionalised, but yet to be tried as if she were fully capable.

I would be very grateful for any advice anyone on the list can give, or can pass on a contact for further discussion to anyone who wants to know more.
