Apologies for cross-posting ***************************************************************************** THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS OF EDINBURGH and THE CENTRE FOR EVIDENCE-BASED CHILD HEALTH, INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH, LONDON and THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PAEDIATRICS AND CHILD HEALTH "How to Practise Evidence-Based Child Health" 8-9 March 2004 Aims of the Course: The course aims to introduce health care professionals to some of the key skills required to use the best available evidence in their clinical decisions. These include how to: * Frame answerable questions from clinical or policy problems * Find the best available evidence to answer the question * Critically appraise research and other evidence for its validity and usefulness * Incorporate evidence into clinical decisions Programme: Following an introductory presentation on evidence-based child health and how to get the question right, there will be a series of practical sessions during which participants will work in small multi-disciplinary groups with guidance from tutors. Topics covered will include searching the scientific literature and appraising research articles both on diagnosis and on therapy. Examples from child health will be used and preparatory material will be provided in advance of the course. Who should attend? Although the course is based on examples of practice and policy problems in child health, the concepts are relevant to professionals from all sectors of the health service including: paediatricians, PAMs, health visitors, nurses, general practitioners, managers and others whose work relates to child health will find the examples particularly relevant. Previous experience in using research evidence to make decisions is an advantage but not essential. The course is designed for participants who primarily want to practise, rather than teach, evidence-based health care.
