Dear All, Following on from the 'Links that Tie' Conference we would like to ask anyone interested in submitting a paper for a forthcoming volume on this exciting subject to get in touch with an abstract by the 10th of January. Further details are as follows: The Links that Tie –Tool for Bones / Bones for Tools A recent conference organized at the McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge attempted to address the necessary interrelationship of stone tools, bone tool production, and animal resource acquisition, exploitation, and processing. The tangible association of raw material procurement, implement manufacture, and the exploitation of meat resources in the archaeological record cannot be understated and need not be limited to Pleistocene human groups. At present we have contributions spanning the entirety of the Palaeolithic period side by side with research on flint tools in historic and ethnographic contexts. These contributions, while unrestricted to any specific period also represent a large geographic range from Tierra del Fuego to Western Europe and Indonesia. We are presently negotiating publication dates with the McDonald Institute Monographs and would appreciate submissions that compliment the contributions we have received to date in order to realise our vision of a quick publication. Given the ubiquity of stone / bone tools with resource acquisition there is broad scope for the final contributions; these may include, but are by no means limited to, the production and development of bone / stone projectiles and tools; the physics, identification, and interpretation of cut marks; butchery patterns; raw material procurement; implement development and technological change through time. We look forward to reviewing abstracts by the 10th of January.
