Dear colleagues,

As the grant-holder, I would like to say a bit more about the post
advertised on this mailing list for a Research Associate/Fellow for the
recently awarded 2-year EPSRC project 'Investigating Travel Behaviour
Dynamics and their Incorporation into Transport Models'.

I am looking for someone with either:

(i) Mathematical/statistical expertise with ability to relate this to
survey and analysis of human behaviour; or
(ii) Travel behaviour expertise with ability to conduct quantitative
analysis.

I would characterise the project as being about situations such as
where a new light rapid transit (LRT) system is introduced and we want
to know how patronage will build up over time (will it be an instant
success or will it take time to attract a viable market share?). It
would be helpful to understand how potential users of the LRT adapt to
its introduction (an employee might be keen to use the LRT but have a
parking season ticket and wait until it expires; a shopper might learn
over time that it is more convenient for them to use the car to go to
the city centre instead of the bus because the LRT has reduced car
commuting and freed up parking spaces; a company might choose to locate
near the LRT line in advance of it opening to take advantage of the
high level of accessibility to be offered).

The appointment is for three years and the salary will be in the range
£17,624 - £27,669. Closing date for applications is 14 April 2004.
