Please find below a 'call for proposals' for popular science events and
activities as part of this year's BA Festival of Science...

THE BA FESTIVAL OF SCIENCE

The BA Festival of Science 2004 will take place at the University of Exeter
from 6 - 10 September 2004. The theme of the Festival is the responsibility
of being a scientist. Further details about the Festival and the core
scientific programme can be found at www.the-ba.net.

In Exeter, the Festival of Science will for the first time be accompanied by
a diverse programme of events not only at the University but all over the
city and the region. Events and activities will vary in their edginess,
‘seriousness’ and style, and will engage a broad range of local audiences in
science-related activities and spectacles. We do not want to prescribe
events but a range of approaches is envisaged from, say, science in film,
science through drama, science trails, science in shopping centres, science
exhibits, and so on, to consultation events with specific groups concerned
about particular local, science-related issues. The target audiences of
these events and spectacles should be as diverse as possible. They should
mainly coincide with the dates of the core Festival, however the weekends
before and after may be utilised.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The local coordinators are now looking to hear from individuals and
organisations that want to run science-related events and activities for the
local public as part of the BA Festival of Science. Proposals should include
a short one paragraph description of the event and give an indication of the
target audience. The local coordinators will identify proposals for
inclusion in the Festival programme, and will lend a ‘helping hand’ to
organisers of events. Proposals should be sent as soon as possible, or by 15
February.
