Hello everyone! A reminder about the Cartoon Science Workshop which is being held at Kew Gardens 23-24 April 2004. Have you ever wanted to have a go at writing a show from scratch or try your hand at building props? Do you feel you need some experience of doing a risk assessment for a show, or have you been keen to use cartoons in a show for ages, but been frustrated by copyright rules? Then the BIG Cartoon Science Workshop is for you! Following on from the Cartoon Science Brainstorm at last year's BIG event, BIG is running a cartoon science show workshop at the Education Centre in Kew Gardens. BIG has commissioned young animator, Adam Syrop, to create a set of animations to illustrate the Cartoon Science Laws drawn up at the brainstorm. These will be used to form the basis of a brand new science show, created in just two days and culminating in a performance at Kew Gardens. The workshop will be very practical with plenty of chances for people to try their hands at something new or to swap ides with other people. The programme includes prop building, risk assessment, writing media releases, producing evaluation forms, making links to the National Curriculum and performing. There will be experienced people on hand to help with all aspects of the workshop and a range of the audio visual and prop building equipment will be available for use by participants. The workshop lasts two full days and costs £100 for BIG members (non members are welcome, you just have to join first!). The fee includes a complete resource pack from the course and permission to use animations in their own shows. BIG members may also attend the performance on the afternoon of Saturday 24 April for no extra cost besides the entry fee for Kew Gardens. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
