Dear Colleagues, This research fellowship may be of interest to some of your students. Hope your summer is going well. Best regards, Ken Friedman RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY IN THE CREATIVE SECTOR: WORK, ORGANISATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PhD Scholarship Victoria University of Wellington We seek applications from suitably qualified graduates to undertake research on work, organisations and management in the creative sector, leading to a PhD. The deadline for applications is 16 August 2004. We encourage applications from graduates with qualifications in a field that is, ideally, related to the creative sector or to the study of work, organisations and management. However we are open to a range of academic backgrounds, especially if applicants have professional experience in the creative sector. Applicants must possess a good first degree and preferably a Masters by research or equivalent qualification. The creative sector includes traditional and emerging creative industries, and includes the not-for-profit cultural sector. Academically, research on the organisation and management of creative industries is seen as occupying a relatively new interdisciplinary space, and work in the creative sector is seen characteristic of 'new economy' trends in careers, work styles and organisational cultures. This project is relatively openly defined because of the need for a wide range of research in this field. We have also included the cultural sector (e.g., museums, art galleries, performance) as well as the creative industries because the boundaries between the two are in practice very porous, and people and ideas pass frequently between them. This scholarship is one of Victoria's Vice-Chancellor's Strategic Research Scholarships for 2004-2005. The scholarships are valued at $20,000 per annum plus a domestic tuition fee waiver, and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Given reciprocal arrangements for the payment of domestic tuition fees, students from Australia, France and Germany, as well as from New Zealand, are particularly encouraged to apply. Students from other countries will have to bear the cost of the international student fee.
