It is almost impossible to eliminate a contribution to test results from TTS, unless the subject is isolated from high levels of noise for 16 hours (H&SE suggested figure) prior to testing.

Given that we are all exposed to noise to some degree, the best that can be done is to:-

a) minimise the exposure and record the recent noise history

b) test under similar conditions each year

c) accept that those who come out as category 5, having been exposed to noise, will certainly have satisfactory hearing, and those who fall into cat 4 or 3 should possibly be re tested under different conditions to confirm their status.
