Hi Anna

Re; keeping up to date with staff – we write to the employee twice and
if we get no response we write to their safety officer/manager and hand
it over to them clearly stating that we have attempted recall.

Dear Naz et al - thanks for your response - it has been very informative
and good to know it's not just us doing recalls! In theory our
computer system could generate the letters but unfortunately in practice
it can't! However I do have a couple of ideas to improve the system.
The other problem with our computer is that it is not accurate as to
whether staff still work for the Trust - however being NHS we're not
going to get a new system! The other thought I had was that as the
Managers in clinical areas have to record staff HB details in their
COSHH file - would it be considered advisable that they have details of
when boosters are due? Just another thought!
How are you doing Naz, did you get on OK with the leadership module?!
Best wishes, Anna

Hi there Anna,
I have to agree with Lindy - but like Car we now have a computerised
system in which you can enter when a booster is due and then the
computer will generate the letters, it does this on a monthly basis. It
replaced our 'paper' system about 3 years ago, and it is a vast
improvement though still somewhat time consuming.
Hope you are well,
Regards
Naz

Under the HB policy for the NHS Trust I work for, if a person has
achieved adequate antibodies following vaccine course they require
booster at 5 years. Currently our OHD undertakes very time-consuming
recall system and given the high staff turnover it is not always
effective. Is it not acceptable just to inform staff in writing,
following their initial course that, providing they have achieved a good
antibody response, they require a booster 5 years later? Do we have any
legal obligations to formally recall 5 years later? I would be grateful
for opinions, as with mounting work loads I think it would be very
beneficial to get rid of this lengthy procedure!
