Dear All

I am slightly worried about the tendency to jump to the conclusion that
someone must be insulting them or taking the piss when they are not sure of
what has been written . One disadvantage of the JISC mail is that we cannot
pick up on non verbal cues, body language, facial expressions.

As we are all intelligent highly motivated people(otherwise why would be
tuning in) can I put forward the proposal that we give people the benefit of
the doubt, see the glass half full rather than half empty etc. If you are
unsure of the implications of a response, a private email to the individual
for clarification, and /or to continue the row in private might be
appropriate.

Saghir, I do hope this perceived slight isn't why you are unsubscribing. I
think the expression involving knitting more of whatever there is currently
a shortage of originates from WWII and is perhaps better known among the
more mature subscribers (in this sense I mean older , not necessarily better
behaved!). The follow up email about someone's mother probably having the
pattern made me howl with laughter.

Best wishes to all and Happy Valentines Day in advance..
Diane
