Here are a few things you might find useful: Dr Mike Bagshaw from BA - shortly to be Professor Bagshaw, prof of aviation medicine at Kings and a qualified OH physician recommended visiting the BA website for info on all these topics - www.ba.com/health where you will find lots of useful info and research on DVT, long haul etc. This is what they do for all their staff too! The other speaker who gave some really useful info was Dr Dipti Patel from the BBC and late of the FCO who looks after the BBC journalists who says: Preparation does not equate with immunisation, nor is it about stopping people going overseas as there are few contr-indication. The main concern is that individuals are adequately prepared for overseas work. The Beep sends people on a 7 day course in preparation for working abroad - then its about individual factors, what they will be doing and where. Alexandra Jordon from Nathnac - National Travel Health Centre and Network spoke and they are in the process of updating the yellow book - which will be on line - but do visit their website www.nathnac.org. and go to the health professionals site where you will find allsorts of useful stuff. Dr David Snashall, Principal Medical adviser to HSE suggests we follow the 5 steps to risk assessment and commented that 'Travel is hazardous, it broadens the mind and loosens the bowels' And after all that Michelle Abbott of MASTA recommended www.masta.org as it has some useful info for travellers with special needs and downloadable fact sheets. So don't know about checklists - maybe it needs a clear policy & procedure first.
