Oh Greta, the site is an educational facility called UK Occupational Health Nursing. It is not about me claiming to be an OH Nurse or about my own ego it is a facility which was set up to help others which is free, which I do not claim at all and in any way is set up by an OH Qualified Nurse. The domain name was chosed to attract OH Nurses and other allied professionals to it as a useful resource. It is for OH Nurses and allied professionals to use if they wish and if it is of use as at the time I set it up there was no other OH site like this in existence in the UK. It is a free resource, it has free and helpful information and downloads and links to good sites and I pay for the domain name and webhosting myself and update the site in my own time. It is purely and simply to help others for no gain. Many nurses have been helped by this site. Not particularly be myself but by the 140 nurses OH or non OH who have joined the mailing list and step in to help when I send out mailings for those seeking help from the message board. Why on earth should the RCN and NMC come into this? As an ad hoc agency nurse I work in A&E and don't hold specialist qualifications, I also work on SCBU and don't hold specialist qualifications, I work on PICU and don't hold specialist qualifications, I work in Elderly Care and don't hold specialist qualifications but I get asked back again to work because people appreciate genuine input and support for others! My aim is to help others if I can and that goes for my colleagues who visit the UKOHN site or who are mailing list subscribers. I am also up to date with Care Standards required of me by the agencies I work for so am allowed to work in OH even as a non specialist practitioner. Ask OH Recruitment, Cheviot and other reputable organisations who have RGN non qualified nurses on their books. Many of us work out there in OH settings or industry who for one reason cannott undertake relevant qualifications at present. As for the title OH Nurse I was called this as a non qualified Professional when I worked at one particular Council some 2 years ago. I did not ask for this title - it was the one thought most appropriate to describe the role and the very commendable Senior Nurses there who supervised my work did not worry about this - they knew I had no Specialist Qualifications and neither did at least one Senior Nurse there who held the title Senior OH Nurse! Her OH Certificate is defunct today and she is still practicing and doing a good job out there - with the same title. We could debate this forever and go round in circles. If this list decides the site is guilty of misrepresentation and abuse of the OH Profession in any way, sad though it will be for users and visitors it will come down and I will sell the domain name! Any offers out there?-----Original Message----- From: Greta Thornbory [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 27 May 2004 23:12 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: another OH site??? Although of course I understand your personal circumstances. However, I would still value what other OH practitioners think of the internet site - especially as both the RCN and the NMC require both practice and qualifications in OH. In OH journal I recommend internet resources to readers every month and check these regularly. I also make comments on the validity of these sites - not only from my own view point but from other qualified OH practitioners. I am making no comment about the quality of your site, but asking other practitioners what they think and feel about a site entitled 'ohnurse.co.uk' which is not run or maintained, nor has any input from a qualified practitioner in the field. Its a bit like me - as a qualified teacher and previous senior university lecturer setting up a site for them - I am not sure I would have much credibility! What do my colleagues out there think?
