What the business wants and needs to achieve is where OH should focus to add
real value.

When the issue of what
letters or title you can give yourselves has been resolved taking into account
that the majority of companies do not understand the difference between Occ
Health Nurse or Advisor, it may be more appropriate to discuss and
focus on raising the business profile of Occ Health. yes, companies
want professionally qualified but more importantly they need
positive Occ Health Management as a component to the corporate business
objectives.

Sorry Neil but I do not agree with you. The NMC
state quite clearly that anyone who has a Dip or Cert before the SP
qualification came into being is a SP - see page 9 of the new NMC News
2004 No.7 and I quote
'All practitioners who met the requirements to use
the title specialist practitioner in 1995 until 1998 will be viewed as
holding equivalent standing as those who were subsequently awarded the
specialist practitioner qualification'
This will mean that those of us who have OHNC or OHNdip
from prior to 1995 will be entitled to enter the new third part of the
register as 'specialist practitioners'. The reason for this is probably to
stop thousands of OH nurses having to APEL for a specialist
practitioer qualification which would be a costly exercise for
all involved. Beyond this I believe it is down to
semantics.
