Hi I am Stephen Hill Health and Safety Advisor Stoke-on-Trent College. Many of our students particularly the young ones have the habit of spiting. This is a health risk particularly for wheelchair users as they have to push through this stuff and get it on their hands. I have been in touch with the local communicable diseases officer who informs me that she is not aware of any national posters or other material highlighting the danger of spiting. Has any one out there any sources of posters etc to support an anti-spitting campaign. I am not sure why this is. Maybe it has something to do with the Guidance being in draft form for consultation and is not solid enough at the moment. In our department the Infection control policy is written by the OHP and the Microbiologist, I will bring this up with them next week and get their opinion. Thanks for triggering my little Grey cells. Best wishes. However all HCW's (not just those conducting EPP's) should be offered an HIV antibody test, page 13 You are of course right in saying that we cannot insist, however we are moving towards a Hospital policy which says that if we have no clearance then they cannot be cleared for EPP's. Its really all about protecting the patient regards David -----Original Message----- From: Saghir Siraj [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 16 January 2004 11:32 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Screening for Midwifery Students Dear David, Not too sure about the HIV testing, I have not read the Guidance recently but I was under the impression that we should offer HIV testing to those who want it but that we cannot insist on HIV testing for Epip workers.
