The term 'invert' is commonly applied to the bottom section of a
circular roadway support (segmental concrete or steel) and, I believe,
it is applicable to the bottom of any shaped roadway whether carrying
water or not.

Is 'Invert' a correct term in mining circles for the bottom of the water
course level of a drainage adit? Mike Shaw

Another term for a water channel in a drainage level is a "grip".
