I have been asked to forward this to the list.
Statistics for the Terrified v5.0 now available
The new version of Statistics for the Terrified is now out, with
a lot of
extra material including new chapters on
probability and on graphical data
description, an
expanded chapter on hypothesis testing, new material on time
series, Q and A from a virtual class, printing from any page, and
improvements throughout. An optional Analysis module is also
available,
enabling students to analyse their own data
without the need to learn the
more heavy-duty
statistical analysis software.
Statistics for the Terrified was first developed in 1993 at St
Barts Medical
College and then St George's Hospital
Medical School before it moved into
the private sector
in 1996. In 2000, version 4.0 was commended by the BMA.
Statistical concepts and techniques are presented in a
commonsense way,
avoiding the heavy maths which tends to
creep in elsewhere, and is
frequently
used as a basic underpinning to other teaching and textbooks. It
is
particularly popular with both teachers and students
whose primary interest
is in using statistics as a tool,
rather than following it as a discipline,
and with
student groups who do not have a mathematical background.
