Dear List Members, An important & new exhibition is announced and will take place in the Hayward Gallery, London / England. See the exhibition announcements on http://www.visual-media.be/exhibition.html "Eyes, Lies and Illusions" runs from 7 October 2004 - till 2 January 2005 and shows treasures in the collection of the German experimental film-maker Werner Nekes. More than 1000 items will be on display! According to the Hayward web site, Eyes, Lies and Illusions "explores a treasure house of optical wizardry, from magic lanterns, shadow plays, tricks of perspective and anamorphic images, to kaleidoscopes, zoetropes and other early forms of animation" Please inform me about new and coming exhibitions in the field of Photography, Pre-Cinema & Visual Media. Activity on Early Visual Media is low during the Holliday period! - Important new pages on Joseph Plateau will be online in a not too distant future. - The history of the Peepshow (VUE d'OPTIQUE - RAREKIEK - MONDO NIOVO - GUCKKASTEN) will be explained and illustrated by a recent finding (see Vue d' Optique) Please check regular http://www.visual-media.be/, wondrous new information is coming. By analogy with the true 18th. Century Peepshow, "Early Visual Media" will become a contemporary Peepshow in the field op optical & kinetic curiosities.
