INFOmatch now offers criminal record checks

CILIP’s recruitment agency can clear job seekers for sensitive posts

INFOmatch, the recruitment consultancy operated by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, has become a registered signatory authorised to countersign criminal record checks on job seekers via the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

“INFOmatch is keen to support job seekers and enhance their chances of finding work, and to ensure the workplace is secure for all,” says INFOmatch Head Susan Baillie.  “A check by the CRB is essential for many of our posts, especially those where the worker is dealing with vulnerable adults or young people, or with records or archives associated with these groups.”

Schools and colleges, medical and health libraries, toy libraries, penal institutions and many charities may require candidates to be CRB-cleared.  “A job seeker registering with INFOmatch for such positions will be asked if they have a CRB check already,” Susan Baillie explains. “This check may be ‘portable’; it depends on the place of work, how old the check is and the level at which it has been carried out - enhanced or standard.  If a candidate is willing to undergo the check, INFOmatch will support the process,” she continues.

Job seekers first have to contact the CRB direct and quote the appropriate reference numbers.  Forms are sent to them direct, then INFOmatch organises the countersigning.  Copies of correspondence are sent to CILIP, and the main contact is direct with the job seeker.

“We expect the job seeker to meet the cost of the enquiry phone calls to the CRB and the check,” Susan Baillie adds.  “However, if INFOmatch finds a job for them, and the check is necessary for the job, we will refund the costs.”

Candidates registered with INFOmatch as job seekers, who wish to apply to the CRB for a check, are invited to contact the agency to discuss the next stage.  Employers seeking INFOmatch’s help in recruiting for a post in any of the categories for which CRB clearance is required, or who are uncertain whether a check is needed, should also contact INFOmatch staff, who will be pleased to assist.

INFOmatch can be contacted direct on 020 7255 0570 (please leave a message out of hours), by fax on 020 7255 0571, or by email at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
