UKOLUG AGM 2004
Decision on Name Change
On the 8th June the 26th
UKOLUG AGM agreed to change the name of the Group from UK Online User Group to the UK electronic Information Group
(UKeIG) with effect
from 1 January 2005. Chris
Armstrong proposed the motion,
describing the actions that had led up to it. At the previous AGM, as Chair of
UKOLUG, he had spoken of the need to evaluate the Group’s role and focus.
At a meeting in autumn 2003, the Management Committee agreed that the Group's
focus had become the accessibility, use and management of electronic information
be it on the Internet, in online databases, on CD-ROM or via corporate networks and intranets.
It was also agreed that the Management Committee recommend that the Group's name
be changed to the UK Electronic Information Group (UKeIG).
Approval for this change of name needs to go before the Professional Practice Committee
of CILIP for discussion and finally before CILIP Council for approval in December 2004.
The UK Online User Group was founded in 1978 to provide support for users of the then
new online information retrieval services.
