Apologies for cross-posting,
The UK Online User Group (UKOLUG), with the support of the Asilomar Institute for Information Architecture,
has announced an exciting and highly topical seminar entitled Perspectives on Information Architecture to
be held at CILIP
headquarters in London on Wednesday, 3rd March 2004
The concept of ‘information architecture' is being used widely by many different professional groups and in a
wide range of contexts. As recently as the Online Information Conference in December 2003 there was very
considerable interest in the sessions on information architecture, and the event also marked the publication
of a book by Facet Publishing entitled Information Architecture – Designing Information Environments for Purpose,
which delegates to this event will be able to
order a copy of at a 25% discount.
The primary objective of this meeting is to illustrate the diversity of perspectives on the role and value of
information architecture, and in particular assess the relevance for library and information professionals.
An important outcome of this seminar is not only to identify the needs of information architects, but also
to identify how interested professional bodies should be addressing such needs to ensure continuing evolution
of the discipline in the UK. For this reason there are two discussion periods during the seminar facilitating
ample opportunities for
delegates to make their contribution to the development of thought on this
area.
The glittering array of speakers include Angela Abell and Alan Gilchrist from TFPL; consultant Stella Dextre Clarke;
David Haynes, Head of Consultancy at CILIP; Mark Everest from Interactive Bureau; Roger Evernden, The4thResource;
Shelley Hardcastle Information Architect at J. Sainsburys PLC and Karen Blakeman of UKOLUG. Topics to be covered will
include Information Architecture – the story so far; Individual taxonomy, metadata, web, business and
information architect perspectives and a look to the future in terms of the development of information architecture
in the UK.
This opportunity to be both informed and stake a claim in this debate will be available for UKOLUG and
AIfIA members at £130 + VAT (£160 + VAT for non-members)
