From the "Pandora" column (p. 8)  in today's Independent: (and we are still not free of the stereoptypical image of the librarian it seems, judging by the closing comment)

"A bigger packet

Incredible to report that a firm of headhunters has been employed to find a new Librarian for the House of Commons - on a salary of between £72 000 and
£ 117 000 p.a.
'That's a truly staggering amount, and what's more,  it's £20 000 more than an MP gets', notes one backbencher. 'It's amazing quite how many people in this place are paid more than us.'
The post was advertised in the Financial Times this week. So why does it command such a whopping pay packet?
'Although it's called Librarian, it represents one of the biggest functions in the House,' says a Commons spokesman, when Pandora calls.
Not just stamping books and saying 'Shhh!' then."
