APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING Icing on the cake: some reflections on my year as President Date: Tuesday 9 March 2004 Time: 6.30 pm Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1 Speaker: Margaret Watson, President of CILIP Margaret Watson reflects on the people she has met and the places visited during her presidential year. As the main theme for her presidency was Continuing Professional Development, much of the discussion with groups and individuals has centred on that topic. Part of the role has been a public relations one, and there is still a great deal of work to be done at national and regional level to further promote the information profession and CILIP's role. In addition to being President of CILIP, Margaret Watson also chairs CILIP's New Qualifications Steering Group. Her career started in academic libraries; she was mainly involved in liaison with academic staff, user education and online searching. She moved to lecturing in 1987 and has been Course Leader for the Masters in Information & Library Management, Head of Subject Division and acting Head of Department at Northumbria University. She taught across a wide range of subjects and courses. Margaret's areas of specialism were Communication, User education, Libraries and arts, and Staff training and development. She has been a member of the Northern Training Group for many years and has been involved in Advanced ICT training for public librarians over the last three years. She was also project manager of the British Council project Info@UK until her retirement in 2003. LHCB evening meetings are free and open to all with a professional interest in the topic. They are a follow-up to meetings held by IIS Southern Branch. Refreshments will be available afterwards. As space is limited, please let us know if you are coming.
