Unfortunately, Frances' understanding of what is or is not "defensive" is
not in accord with most peoples' perceptions. She should learn to chill out
a bit more.

I did not intend, and do not believe my response was defensive, but
accurate, covering our intentions and our work, and to be written off as
being against public libraries is so totally wrong I felt a strong case
of what is the truth was required.

'Overdue' was referred to, and this again generated a lot of clear
thinking and is still looked at on the Demos web site, and some of the
ideas in that are still being considered and debated. It is healthy to
have provocative arguments and discussion, but not to knock every
comment made that may be less than totally complimentary. The points
made by Tim need to be addressed and where they cannot be substantiated,
knocked down, but we cant ignore the comments.

Maybe I shouldn't be replying on this list, since I'm just a
registration candidate, but I don't think the Laser foundation were done
any favours by the extremely defensive and accusational reply from
Frances Hendrix. Which was impatient, and did rubbish John Briggs'
response, somewhat, even if an emotive response could be expected to
John's own quite emotive words.

And speaking of impartiality, surely that should also be geographic?
