Hi Aaron

I would just like to say, don't be too despondent about taking 2.5 years
over your PDR. I am in a similar position, and while in some ways I would
have liked to do my PDR sooner, in other ways I can see benefits - eg I have
a broader perspective, have had more time to develop some committee work,
have more professional knowledge etc. Now I know the board meeting dates I
am aiming for this year I am 'giving myself the kick up the backside' by
aiming for a specific board meeting date. This seems to give me an incentive
to get the PDR done.

As for the career advice I am not sure if I am the best one qualified to
give you the advice. I would not discount getting in touch with CILIP for
more support, perhaps their Career Development Group might be able to help.

Subject: After chartering?

  Hi all

Still struggling through my PDR and am hoping to get it done very soon.
But what do if/when I finally charter?
I have no ambition to move into management - I quite enjoy my current
post - lots of variety, loads of different skills required etc, but it does
not require a chartered librarian (Not since our job evaluation anyway)
I did think about moving "sideways" - if that makes sense, and move into a
different sort of library post rather than upwards, but how?
Ideally I would love to specialise in usersupport, frontline work and
research, but do such jobs exist?
I apologise if this sounds like a thinly disguised cry for some free
career advice off fellow library bods, but perhaps members of this list
could share their after chartering experiences??
All positive and encouraging replies are especially welcome as they will
give me the kick up the backside I need complete my chartership. (Have been
working on it for 2 and half years now...)

Help!!

  Aaron
