Project description 


The London Museums Hub, led by the Museum of London, is developing a website to promote the achievements and programmes of culturally diverse services delivered by museums across London. The aim of the website is look at ways of documenting the range of innovative programmes and providing opportunities to respond to issues that these activities have raised. It will also be an opportunity to make web links with key projects and activities that are being held in the community heritage sector and to examine how information can be shared and marketed to target audiences from minority ethnic communities.

 

The aim of the site will be to provide the following information:

 

1.     A selection of listings of events and exhibitions aimed at culturally diverse audiences.

2.     Archive of outputs from events/projects relating to culturally diverse communities (e.g. transcripts from lectures, oral history interviews etc.)

3.     Collections summary - a searchable database with entries submitted by museums outlining material in their collections relating to culturally diverse communities.

 

 


Freelance consultant


The London Museums Hub is seeking to appoint a freelance consultant to oversee the initial development and creation of content for the Diversity marketing website. The freelancer will need to identify the range of key events that are being carried out across a range of museums and within the community heritage sector relating to cultural diversity and select key activities for the preparation of the website. These will initially be archiving outputs from Black History Month 2004 activities.  The consultant will also promote the site with museums in the region, encouraging them to agree to submit material to the site as it develops, and consult with contributors how information can be best collected and interpreted. The consultant will be responsible for piloting and evaluating the initial templates and collection summary. 

 

The consultant will work closely with the Museum of London's Diversity Manager and the Hub Executive, and other relevant staff from the Museum of London and Hub partners.

 

 


Experience 


The consultant will need to have relevant knowledge and awareness of activities relating to cultural diversity within the Museum or community sector. They will need to consult with various organisations that carrying out relevant activities and be able to select a range of activities from across the sector and from the community. They also need to be able to communicate ideas to designers for inputting information on the website. They will also need some experience of evaluating and monitoring projects and be able to guide the development of the project. He or she will also need to be self-motivated and able to work on his or her own initiative.  

 


 


Timescale


The freelance work will be carried out in the first phase of this project from September to December 2004

Deadline for applications 6th September

Ideal start date: 20th September

Work completed by end of December

 

 


Project fee


The fee for project s £7,000.
