I write to the relevant LEA in the role as Disability Co-ordinator with a request that 1-1 specialist support be put in place from the DSA e.g. 1 hour per week for 10 weeks @£50 per hour, without the necessity of a Needs assessment. I refer the student to our Learning Support Service, immediately, and keep my fingers crossed that the LEA agrees to pay! Most LEAs seem happy to accept my proposal/recommendation. Alternatively, the student can apply to the college Access to Learning Fund, to pay for the sessions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Can anyone tell me what they are doing with final year students who have only just received notification of acceptance for DSA from their LEA? Will LEAs pay for dyslexia support without an assessment in such cases or will support be delayed still further while they wait? Is it also a waist putting dyslexic student through an assessment if they've almost completed their written work? I have a large number of LEA confirmations for students of this kind that have just been placed on my desk and am reluctant to push them to the front of the queue to the detriment of other students.
