We are thinking of "screening" all students by asking them to write a short [2 page max] essay to submit to their personal tutor for evaluation - ostensibly to assess general literacy, essay writing skills etc, but I've asked for the poorer ones to be forwarded for consideration by a dyslexic specialist to try to pick up students with learning difficulties for further screening. A kind of "pre-filter" to make dyslexia screening more manageable. Do other HE institutions screen new intakes in this way? If not, why not, and what are the alternatives? Any sharing of information would be much appreciated! Thanks! Diolch! Tom
