The Disabled Student Support Team is an integral part of the Student Services Centre which has responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of a wide range of support services.  The University has a major commitment to recruiting and supporting disabled students and, due to continued success, is seeking to expand its existing team in order to enhance its DSA Assessment provision.  The Team operates as an Assessment Centre for the purposes of accessing Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) and is a member of the National Network of Assessment Centres.

Your primary role will be to conduct DSA Assessments for disabled students but you will also provide pre-entry and ongoing guidance to University applicants and students.  Whilst you will have a commitment to supporting all disabled students you will have a particular interest and expertise in students with specific learning difficulties/dyslexia. You will have experience of assessing the needs of disabled students in Higher Education and have a knowledge of disability related equipment and software. 

A commitment to team working is essential, together with effective communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and motivate staff. You will also have an understanding of and commitment to the promotion of equal opportunities and inclusion.

The post holder will have an opportunity to contribute to the development of the service and to work in an environment which encourages individual initiative alongside genuine team working and there will be the opportunity to participate in research and development forums.  You will be required to actively and regularly develop your professional skills and knowledge in order to achieve and maintain Registered Assessor status.
