Sheila
Just to add to the chorus- we don't have a blanket policy either and
wouldn't for the reasons others have pointed out.

We do not have a blanket policy either, as we feel there is a danger of
students getting further and further behind. Liz maynard

No blanket policy here either. In fact if a student is receiving
specialist support we would usually expect them to have the same
deadlines as everyone else for coursework. We would consider each case
separately and the nature of the assessed work plus any other reasons
for non deadline compliance. Emma Shelton

We don't provide blanket extensions here at Lancaster either. Students
may negotiate extensions if they are overtaken by some unforeseen event,
but being dyslexic or having another disability does not in itself
guarantee an extension. If an Ed. Psych made a specific recommendation
for an individual student we probably would, but I haven't come across
that yet.

We have always resisted the request from our disabled students to have
blanket extensions for all course work and given them all the reasons
why, I wont go on here and list them all but after having a complaint
from one of our disabled students our Director of Student Services has
asked me to ask if any Universities have a blanket extension for
students and how you all manage it. The student in question (who is
dyslexic) feels she should not have to ask her tutors for an extension
and it should be her right as it is her right to have the extra time in
exams.
Thoughts please, meeting with Head and student tomorrow.
