The Digital Preservation Coalition, British Library and CURL are
pleased to announce a joint one-day forum that will focus on digital preservation activities within institutional repositories.
'An institutional repository needs to be a service with continuity

These long-term commitments are a key aspect of institutional
repositories, and each repository should seek to facilitate the long-term
preservation of selected digital objects stored within it.
This forum seeks to address these preservation features and present the
audience with working examples of such preservation activities. Expert
speakers will demonstrate practical examples of preservation strategies
within their repositories. The first half of the day will focus on different
implementations of institutional repositories, and the organisational
challenges that institutions might face in building preservation
strategies into their systems. The afternoon will highlight two case studies of up and running digital
archives reflecting on the technical challenges they encountered. The day will conclude with a panel session, which will explore the different technical and cultural approaches to digital preservation
activities.
The forum is aimed at organisations that are in the process of, or
about to embark on setting up institutional repositories, and will serve to give the audience a clearer idea of what might suit their own requirements.
