Or perhaps if they made it self administered.  If you can fill out the form
online, why can't you LODGE it online?

I also have no idea what the register is for.  It just takes £35 a year from
people and probably costs £100 to fill out by a TICO clerk!

Maybe if the TICO (or whatever it is they're calling themselves this year)
scrapped the Data Protection Register, they could apply their resources to
something more important........  I'm still not sure what the hugely
time-consuming maintenance of this database actually achieves.....?

I think there was never any stealth, per se.  At least £35 is a small fee.
Mind you I am about to launch a business that will require to be notified,
and that £35 in a new start-up budget is something I resent.

That makes me unhappy, as the fees can easily become a stealth tax.
